In an increasingly digital world, your profile becomes a virtual representation of your skills, dreams, accomplishments and personality. Therefore, it is imperative to make sure you are creating a dynamic portrayal of yourself and use social networking sites as a platform for professional networking.

The connections you can make on LinkedIn, for example, can provide career growth and opportunity. Here are three tips for networking on LinkedIn:

1. Join relevant groups. LinkedIn has deployed a number of features to enable like-minded individuals or industry professionals. Once there, consider posting relevant information or news to the forum and ask for feedback. Networking is a two-way street.

2. Add applications. The professional networking site has enabled applications such as TripIt, SlideShare, Events, Portfolio Display and Reading List by Amazon to connect and post a user's interactions. These interactions create a more dynamic personality online and provide fodder for conversation between members with common interests.

3. Connect it all. Many individuals use Twitter, LinkedIn and a blog such as WordPress to publish industry news or musings. If these accounts are professional, consider connecting them to a LinkedIn profile so searchers can easily explore all of them if they are interested.
