San Francisco public works response has been to develop a very simple yet effective solution to deal with the problem of human and animal waste on the streets public restrooms by with paid attendants. This unique combination of a workforce development program to strategically address a municipal issue is proving to yield very positive results. While at first glance the job may appear fairly simple, pit stop attendants must possess a unique mix of traits including acute emotional intelligence, de-escalation skills and an ability to identify and communicate with a wide range of behavioral and mental health issues from the clients they serve.
